Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment where they can learn, thrive, and reach their full potential. Yet many families face financial hardship, food insecurity, and limited access to educational resources that affect a child’s well-being and future. Our Child & Family Support Program is committed to strengthening families by providing essential assistance, educational opportunities, and community-based support that help children succeed both at home and in school.

Working closely with parents, caregivers, educators, volunteers, and community partners, we provide practical resources that reduce hardship while promoting healthy child development and family stability. Key Program Interventions

• Essential Needs & Family Assistance

Families experiencing financial hardship often struggle to meet their children’s basic needs. We provide nutritious food, clothing, hygiene supplies, school uniforms, seasonal essentials, emergency assistance, and other critical resources that help families maintain stability during difficult times. By addressing immediate needs with dignity and compassion, we create a stronger foundation that allows children to focus on learning, growing, and reaching their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.

• Education & School Success

Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty. We provide backpacks, school supplies, books, tutoring, homework assistance, digital learning resources, and educational enrichment opportunities that help children succeed academically. Through personalized learning support and mentorship, we encourage confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning while preparing students for future educational and career opportunities.

• Youth Development & Recreation

Children thrive when they have access to positive experiences beyond the classroom. Our program offers sports, arts, leadership development, after-school activities, cultural events, recreational outings, and summer programs that encourage creativity, teamwork, resilience, and personal growth. Who does BenaMakenga support?

BenaMakenga supports refugees, newcomers, displaced individuals, and families rebuilding their lives. We also assist people facing financial, educational, employment, and settlement barriers.

What resettlement support do we provide?

We help newcomers navigate housing, initial orientation, community resources, referrals, and other practical needs that make settling and building a stable life in Canada easier.

How do we help families in need?

We provide dignity-focused assistance for families experiencing financial hardship, including support with food, winter clothing, transit, household essentials, and other urgent needs.

Do we offer education & job support?

Yes. Our programs include youth tutoring, language-learning support, résumé and interview preparation, employment readiness, credential guidance, and opportunities that help newcomers develop their skills.

Does BenaMakenga work internationally?

Yes. Alongside our work in Canada, BenaMakenga supports humanitarian initiatives for refugees, displaced families, and communities affected by displacement and crisis internationally.
